Traffic in Utah County: What to Know Before You Drive
Utah County is growing fast, and with that growth comes a few changes on the roads! If you’re curious about what driving and commuting are like here, here’s a quick guide to traffic in Utah County.
Major Roads & Highways
- I-15: The main north-south artery, connecting Utah County with Salt Lake City and points south. It’s busy during rush hours, especially near Lehi, American Fork, and Orem.
- US-89 & State Street: These parallel routes offer alternatives to I-15 and run through many local communities.
- Mountain View Corridor & SR-92: Newer roads that help ease congestion and provide access to growing neighborhoods.
Commuting & Rush Hours
Morning and evening rush hours can get busy, especially around tech hubs like Lehi’s Silicon Slopes. Expect slower traffic from 7–9 AM and 4–6 PM. Many residents commute to Salt Lake City, so plan extra time if you’re heading north in the morning or south in the evening.
Public Transit
Utah Transit Authority (UTA) offers FrontRunner commuter rail and bus services connecting major cities in Utah County to Salt Lake and beyond. Park-and-ride lots make it easy to combine driving and transit.
Tips for Navigating Traffic
- Use apps like Google Maps or Waze to check real-time conditions and find the fastest routes.
- Consider carpooling or using public transit to save time and reduce stress.
- Plan errands and trips outside of peak hours when possible.
